Terms of Service

Last updated: 1 October 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Akshaya Vault, a secure family vault application for storing and organising documents, financial accounts, policies, and related information, including our website, mobile and web applications, and emergency-access features (together, the "Service"), operated by Akshaya Vault ("we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. What Akshaya Vault Is

Akshaya Vault lets a household (a "Family") store documents, insurance policies, vehicle records, subscriptions, financial accounts, addresses, and medical records in one place, with role-based access for different Family Members, AI-assisted extraction of details from uploaded documents, reminders for upcoming renewals, and a "Break-Glass" emergency access protocol that lets a designated Trusted Contact request time-delayed, masked access to critical information if the account owner becomes unavailable.

2. Accounts and Roles

You must provide accurate information when creating an account. Accounts may have one of several roles: Administrator, Family Owner, Family Member, or Trusted Contact - each with different levels of access, set by the Family Owner or Administrator. You are responsible for safeguarding your login credentials and for all activity under your account. Tell us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access.

3. Break-Glass Emergency Access

The Break-Glass feature allows a Trusted Contact to request emergency access to a masked subset of the account owner's information. The account owner controls the configured wait period and will be notified of any request; access is only granted automatically if the owner does not respond within that window. You are responsible for choosing Trusted Contacts you genuinely trust and for keeping your emergency-access settings up to date. We are not responsible for a Trusted Contact's use (or misuse) of information obtained through this feature once access has been granted according to your own configured settings.

4. Subscriptions and Billing

Akshaya Vault offers a free Individual plan and paid Family Guardian and Legacy Plus plans, billed on a recurring basis. Payment is processed by our third-party payment processor, Stripe; we do not store your full card details ourselves. Paid plans renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from your account settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and we do not provide refunds for partial periods except where required by law.

5. Your Content

You retain ownership of the documents, records, and information you upload or enter ("Your Content"). You grant us a limited licence to host, process, and display Your Content solely to provide the Service to you and the Family Members/Trusted Contacts you authorise - including sending relevant excerpts of a document to our AI document-processing provider to extract fields like provider, dates, and amounts when you use that feature. You are responsible for having the right to store and share any information you add, including information about other people (e.g. a family member's medical details) that you have their consent to include.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to: use the Service for any unlawful purpose; upload content that infringes someone else's rights or that you don't have permission to store; attempt to gain unauthorised access to another user's account or data; interfere with or disrupt the Service's operation; or use the Service to store or transmit malicious code.

7. Data Export and Account Deletion

You can export your data in common formats (CSV, Excel, JSON) at any time, and you can request deletion of your account and associated data, subject to any retention we're legally required to keep (for example, billing records).

8. Service Availability

We aim to keep the Service available and reliable, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted access. We may suspend the Service for maintenance, and we'll try to give notice of planned downtime where practical.

9. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is." While we use industry-standard security measures (including encryption of data at rest and in transit), no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure of data will never occur. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including damages resulting from a Trusted Contact's use of emergency access granted under your own settings, or from inaccuracies in AI-extracted document data that you have not reviewed and corrected.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you (for example, by email or an in-app notice) before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, unless otherwise required by the mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country of residence.
